USS Milwaukee (CL-5), the second of ten Omaha-class cruisers, was laid down in 1918. She served in the U.S. Pacific Fleet and patrolled the Caribbean Sea. After the U.S. entered World War II, the ship was made flagship of the 2nd Cruiser Division in the Atlantic Ocean.
