The Turbine-class destroyers were a further development of the previous Sauro class—more powerful mechanisms allowed for an increase in speed and range. In 1936 and 1937, the lead ship served in the Spanish Civil War. During World War II, she participated in patrol and escort missions, escorting convoys to Africa. In 1943, Turbine was captured by Germany and became part of the Kriegsmarine as TA-14. On September 16, 1944, the destroyer was sunk by American bombers.
